Welcome to The Lamb, Bloomsbury

One of the oldest and most historic pubs in London, The Lamb has been at the heart of Bloomsbury for centuries. Famed for its rich literary past, the pub once welcomed the likes of Sylvia Plath as a regular, alongside visits from Charles Dickens, all adding to the timeless character that still fills every corner today.

Located between Holborn and Russell Square stations on the charming Lamb’s Conduit Street, The Lamb is a proper Victorian pub known for legendary Sunday roasts in Bloomsbury, perfectly poured cask ales, craft beers, full-bodied wines and seasonal British dishes made with the very best produce.

Set across two beautiful floors, you’ll find antique snob screens in the main bar, cosy corners made for long afternoons, a hidden garden terrace for alfresco drinking and dining, plus a collection of private hire spaces perfect for birthdays, engagement parties, leaving drinks and special celebrations. Whether you’re joining us for a quiet pint, a family roast or a lively party with friends, The Lamb is the place to gather in Bloomsbury.

Our re-opening party

We’ll be reopening our doors on Thursday 18th June after a careful little spruce-up (don’t panic, we’ve kept all the good bits exactly where they belong), and by Saturday 20th June we’ll be in full, pint-pouring swing as Lamb’s Conduit Street Summer Fair returns once more.

Join us for an afternoon of old-school merriment as the famous Waiters’ Race darts through the street once again, our beautiful original horse-drawn dray takes pride of place outside the pub, and glasses are raised from bar to pavement all day long. You’ll also be amongst the first to peek Upstairs at The Lamb, our newly refurbished private dining and events space, before settling back into the same cosy corners, wonky old charm and familiar atmosphere that’s made us a Bloomsbury favourite for centuries.

Food & Drinks

Our menus are a celebration of the great British pub – comforting classics, generous plates and the sort of food best enjoyed over good conversation and a well-poured pint. Think homemade scotch eggs and sausage rolls fresh from the kitchen, proper pies, classic fish & chips and the kind of hearty dishes that seem made for settling into an old pub booth for the afternoon.

Sundays, naturally, are something of an institution around here. Our famed roasts have become a Bloomsbury favourite, with towering Yorkshire puddings, plenty of proper gravy and our much-loved sharing roast made for long, lazy afternoons with friends.

Behind the bar, you’ll find well-kept beers and real ales with rotating guest lines, alongside classic cocktails and a thoughtfully chosen wine list from around the world – all ready for whatever sort of visit you fancy, from a quick pint to a wonderfully drawn-out evening.

Plan a party

Whether it’s an intimate supper with close friends, a lively drinks party or a wonderfully over-long celebration that somehow turns into closing time, we’ve a space for every sort of gathering. Tuck yourselves away in The Snug for cosy dinners and candlelit catch-ups, gather for drinks and merriment in the Lower Lamb, or head Upstairs where our private room is available for exclusive hire – perfect for dinner parties, drinks receptions and every occasion worth raising a glass to.

One of London's oldest pubs

Hidden away amongst the bookshops, Bloomsbury charm and literary history of Lamb’s Conduit Street, our pub has been pouring pints for almost 300 years. Dating back to the 1720s, these old walls have seen centuries of London life pass through their doors – from writers and actors to loyal locals lingering over “just the one” beneath the dark wood panelling.

Step inside and you’ll still find all the wonderfully time-worn character we’re famous for, from our Victorian interiors to the cosy corners that have made us one of Bloomsbury’s most treasured pubs for generations. Of course, every old pub has a story or two worth telling, and ours has quite a few…
